MAN ARRESTED IN NOUMEA OVER AIR FRANCE BOMB CLAIM

NOUMEA, New Caledonia (January 13, 1999 - Radio Australia)---Police in New Caledonia say they've arrested a man who tried to prevent the departure of his girlfriend and son by claiming to have planted a bomb on an Air France flight.

The flight was delayed for two hours in Noumea as police searched the plane and luggage. No bomb was found.

The man was released after questioning, and is due to appear in court.

He faces a heavy fine and a prison sentence if convicted.
