SUVA, Fiji Islands (January 26, 1999 -PACNEWS/Fiji Times)---The United States Embassy in Fiji has flown in American experts to boost security at its offices in the capital, Suva, the Fiji Times reports.

Personnel from the U.S. Department of Defense arrived in Fiji Saturday.

The embassy's public relations officer, Nirmal Singh, is quoted as saying that during their stay, the U.S. experts would conduct coordinated planning with the Fiji Military Forces to prepare for annual training exercises.

As part of extra security measures at the embassy, Fiji police have sealed off the road on which the embassy is located and are patrolling it.

Visitors to the embassy now undergo more stringent security checks.

The measures are in line with U.S. responses worldwide following threats of terrorism against its embassies around the globe.
