PORT VILA, Vanuatu (January 27, 1999 - PACNEWS/Radio Australia)---Health officials in Vanuatu have identified communities in the northern islands that urgently need medical supplies in the wake of the flooding and destruction caused by Cyclone Dani.

The National Disaster Management Office reports local resources are scarce and more supplies are needed immediately from non-government organizations and aid donors.

It is estimated that 12,000 outer island people are threatened by malaria, dengue fever and typhoid fever as a result of the cyclone's devastation.
