APPEALS LODGED AGAINST SOLOMON ISLANDS GOVERNMENT REFORMS

HONIARA, Solomon Islands (January 28, 1999 -PACNEWS/SIBC)---The Solomon Islands government's economic reform program has hit another hitch with a number of ministries appealing against proposed cuts.

The Public Employees Union has also expressed dissatisfaction with the reform program.

The government plans to cut back the public service by 55 persons this year and there is concern proposed cuts at the Ministry of Tourism and Culture will result in no international or regional flights at night.

A government taskforce will meet this week to consider the appeals
