YAREN, Nauru (February 1, 1999 - PACNEWS)---Air Nauru will serve Norfolk Island under a new lease agreement with Norfolk Jet.

The Chief Executive of Air Nauru Corporation, Owen Coughlan, has announced the completion of an initial contract with Norfolk Jet, for charters, twice weekly, for Norfolk Island.

The flights, on Wednesdays and Sundays, will originate from Sydney International Airport.

Coughlan says charters of this type will be a first for Air Nauru, providing a solid revenue base. He said aircraft utilization will be maximized and that the corporation's presence and market exposure will be greatly enhanced by the move.

Bad weather on route would mean the aircraft would have to divert to Auckland, New Zealand, which would cause a 12-hour system delay. This would take up to two days to recover. However, he said the service still represents an excellent opportunity for growth for the one aircraft airline.
