HONIARA, Solomon Islands (February 10, 1999 - PACNEWS/SIBC)---Prime Minister Bartholomew Ulufa‘alu's office reports the recent action prohibiting Australian lawyer Donna Bath from entering the Solomon Islands was directly related to national security. However, the office would not elaborate on the decision.

Bath, a lawyer for Merthyr Holdings, Ltd., reportedly expressed surprise at the ban. She was dealing with the Solomon Island interests of Australian businessman Dennis Reinhardt, who is involved in a mining controversy. He, too, is banned from entering the country.

In December, there were concerns about environmental safety standards at the Goldridge mine in the Solomons. Its parent Australian company, Ross Mining, later filed a lawsuit against Reinhardt and a Melbourne law firm, alleging they had conspired to damage Goldridge's reputation.
