PORT MORESBY, Papua New Guinea (February 17, 1999 - PACNEWS/NBC)---Papua New Guinea's Government has put in place a major initiative to help tertiary level students complete their education.

Minister for Education Muki Taranupi has reported that the Government will provide a student loan project to help students who are facing difficulties in paying for their education.

The plan will allow students to borrow money to pay for their studies, he said.

Taranupi announced the initiative while addressing Divine Word University's seventeenth graduation in Madang this week.

He said the initiative is the Government's way of helping both urban and rural families who cannot afford to pay for their children's education.

The Minister said it is also in line with the Government's current efforts to explore ways to improve the extent and quality of higher education in the country.
