U.S. FILM, THE THIN RED LINE, TAKES HOME TOP PRIZE AT BERLIN AWARDS

BERLIN, Germany (February 22, 1999 -- Radio Australia)---The American war movie, The Thin Red Line, has won the top Golden Bear prize at Berlin's 49th International Film Festival.

The feature was filmed on location in the Australian state of Queensland and in the Solomon Islands. It depicts an American infantry company's nightmarish war experiences during the 1942 battle with Japan in Guadalcanal.

Despite its surprise win, the film was considered a front-runner in the festival's main section, in which 25 full-length films were featured.
