TARAWA, Kiribati (March 4, 1999 - PACNEWS/Radio Kiribati)---Officials of the Kiribati Government leave for Chile today to discuss, with members of the United States Tuna Foundation, the conditions of employment of I-Kiribati on American purse seiners.

Kiribati's Minister of Labor, Teiraoi Tetabea, is leading the negotiating team.

Permanent Secretary for Labor Teekabu Tiikai, another team member, said the meeting in Santiago will review employment contracts for I-Kiribati employed by the U.S. Tuna Foundation and consider expanding the arrangement.

Twenty men soon will leave Tarawa to work on several different U.S. purse seiners. Their performance will determine whether more I-Kiribati will be recruited to work on U.S. vessels.
