FIJI NAMES THREE NEW HIGH COMMISSIONERS

SUVA, Fiji Islands (March 8, 1999 - Radio Australia)---The Fiji Government has announced the appointment of new High Commissioners (ambassadors) to Australia, Malaysia and Papua New Guinea.

Fiji's High Commissioner to Malaysia, Ratu Isoa Gavidi, is being transferred to head the Canberra, Australia mission.

Adi Samanunu Cakobau Talakuli, a high chief and former Minister for Fijian Affairs, has been named as the new High Commissioner to Malaysia. She also will be accredited to Thailand and the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific.

And former Chief Magistrate, Sekove Naqiolevu, is the new High Commissioner to Papua New Guinea.

The Government also has confirmed that Ratu Finau Mara, the former Fijian Affairs Minister and son of the President, Ratu Sir Kamisese Mara, will be leaving shortly for New York as Fiji's Permanent Representative to the United Nations.
