TARAWA, Kiribati (March 9, 1999 - PACNEWS)---President Teburoro Tiito has denied that Kiribati's Public Utilities Board has given Government ministers special treatment regarding the payment of their electric bills.

President Tito was reacting to allegations by an Opposition politician that the Board has not taken any action against some Government politicians who have not paid outstanding electric bills for an extended period of time.

The Opposition MP said some ministers are in arrears to the electric company by as much as US$ 800.

Minister for Works and Energy, Manraoi Kaiea, said bills have to be cleared within one month of being issued, unless there is a complaint about services provided, such as faulty electricity meters.
