PAGO PAGO, American Samoa (March 9, 1999 – Samoa News)---Two federal government agencies have tentatively committed to provide more than US$ 80,000 to help preserve and promote the "fa’a Samoa" (Samoan culture) into the new millennium.

The tentative pledges from the U.S. Department of the Interior’s Office of Insular Affairs and the Administration on Native Americans follow several meetings arranged by Senator Rev. Faiivae Galeai, with assistance provided by Congressman Eni Faleomavaega and his staff.

Senator Faiivae pursued the matter with federal officials and others in Hawai’i who have a particular interest in the preservation of native cultures, after he was appointed Chairman of the Senate Committee on Samoan Affairs.
