FOOD IMPORT TAX REDUCED IN SOLOMON ISLANDS

HONIARA, Solomon Islands (March 25, 1999 - PACNEWS/SIBC)---The Solomon Islands Government has announced a reduction in import duties on several food items.

Up to 70 percent duty currently is charged on some items, including meat, but Finance Minister Alpha Kimata said today that the Cabinet has agreed to reduce the import tax on meat to 40 percent.

Kimata said a complete listing of approved duty changes would be published soon. He also indicated that further reductions in some import duties are under consideration.
