AUCKLAND, New Zealand (March 30, 1999 - Radio Australia)---A special conference on alcohol problems among Pacific islanders living in New Zealand will be held in Auckland next month.

The Alcohol Advisory Council reports that although many Pacific people do not drink, those who do tend to drink substantially more than the general population.

It said its research also shows that Pacific people feel they have to be as generous with alcohol as they are with food when they are hosts, or they may be considered "rude or mean."
