HONIARA, Solomon Islands (May 4, 1999 - PACNEWS)---Two secondary schools in the Solomon Islands, which had been forced to close because of recent ethnic tension in Guadalcanal province, reopened on Monday.

Provincial educational authorities say, however, that many students from neighboring provinces have not yet returned to Guadalcanal classes, fearful of new disturbances.

Meantime, in a related development, the Solomon Islands Red Cross reports it has received financial assistance from the International Red Cross Society to help those who were forced to leave for other islands because of the ethnic tension on Guadalcanal.
