SUVA, Fiji Islands (May 6, 1999 - PACNEWS)---Crime Stoppers in Fiji has declared war on drug lords operating in the country.

Crime Stoppers Chairman Dames Datta said the organization would assist police in identifying the sources of the drug problem.

He told a news conference yesterday that they would pursue those responsible for the planting and distributing marijuana.

Datta made the comments as Crime Stoppers celebrated its third anniversary in Fiji.

Visiting Coordinator of the Greater Vancouver Crime Stoppers, Sgt. Gordon Elias, said Crime Stoppers in Fiji had achieved much in three years.

"With the right backing and support of media organizations, Crime Stoppers can help police solve murders that are considered unsolvable," he said.

"The print media and radio stations in Canada have their own special ways of working with our organization, which helped recover US$ 10.4 million worth of drugs last year and over US$ 52 million worth in past years."
