AMERICAN SAMOA CANNERIES SOLD OVER US$400 MILLION IN TUNA TO U.S. MAINLAND LAST YEAR

PAGO PAGO, American Samoa (May 25, 1999 - Samoa News)---More than $400 million worth of canned tuna from American Samoa’s two canneries was shipped to the U.S. mainland in 1998, showing an increase in production, according to a federal report.

The report also pointed out that the canneries remain the dominating private industry in the U.S. South Pacific territory, providing more than 5,000 jobs.
