SUVA, Fiji Islands (May 25, 1999 - PACNEWS/Fiji Times)---Pacific Island exporters supplying the Australian market have been urged to pay careful attention to the packaging and labeling of their products.

That is the advice from the Sydney-based South Pacific Trade Commission to businesses wanting to capture a larger share of the Australian market.

The advice is based on the findings of a panel of consultants who have been advising manufacturers and suppliers in the Pacific Islands region on advertising, graphic design, packaging and marketing.

The three-year findings are now outlined in a new book: "Guide to Successful Packaging and Labeling for the Australian Market."

"The acceptability and success of imported products in the Australian market are largely determined by the standard of packaging and labeling used," said a spokesman for the South Pacific Trade Commission.

"It is important for exporters to consider the sophistication of the Australian market and the increasingly competitive global market evaluating or designing packaging for their products.

"Exporters must also be aware of major trends that would affect the packaging industry in Australia over the next decade."

According to the panel of consultants, Australia’s population make-up is changing and, therefore, designing, packaging and labeling for this growth market will be affected by this trend.
