SCIENTISTS ARRIVE IN VANUATU TO SEARCH UNDERWATER FOR PLANE

PORT VILA, Vanuatu (May 25, 1999 - Radio Australia)---Scientific personnel have arrived in Vanuatu with over 1,700 pounds of underwater detection equipment to search for a twin-engine VanAir plane that crashed in Port Vila Bay on May 8, killing seven persons.

There were five survivors.

The equipment, which will be installed on a local boat, will take pictures of the seabed where the plane is believed to have crashed. The water depth in the area is about 1,000 feet.

The search off Malapoa Point is expected to get under way tomorrow.
