VANUATU PRIME MINISTER ANNOUNCES CABINET RESHUFFLE

PORT VILA, Vanuatu (May 31, 1999 - PACNEWS)---Vanuatu’s Prime Minister Donald Kalpokas has announced a reshuffle of his Cabinet.

The former Minister of Agriculture, John Morsen Willie is the new Minister for Geology, Mines, Rural Water Supply, Energy and Environment.

Former Lands Minister Silas Hakwa was asked to take up the Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Ministry.

However, he refused the new portfolio and told the Prime Minister he would prefer to run his private legal practice.

Hakwa has assured the Prime Minister of his loyalty to the Vanuaaku Pati and support for the Government. A Government statement said Hakwa would be available to advise the Government when necessary.

The Prime Minister accepted the decision of Hakwa and thanked him for his significant contribution as Lands Minister.

Prime Minister Kalpokas will take charge of the Ministry of Agriculture for the time being.

The Prime Minister advised that political and support staff of the former Minister should continue their work as normal.
