Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea (June 1, 1999 - Radio Australia)---Papua New Guinea military units throughout the country are training for major exercises for the first time in 10 years.

Training is being conducted at the naval bases in Manus and Port Moresby, and army bases in Wewak and Murray Barracks.

The exercise will involve cross-country route marches by platoons from the various regions next month that will take 30 days to complete.

The PNG Navy is also preparing to take part in major naval exercises with Australian Fiji, Solomon Islands and Palau early next month.
