SUVA, Fiji Islands (June 8, 1999 - Radio Australia)---The biographer for former Fiji prime minister, Sitiveni Rabuka, predicts Mr. Rabuka will use his position as chair of the Great Council of Chiefs to make a political comeback.

Mr. Rabuka says his new job will give him the opportunity to reunite the Fijian political movement, although he will have to resign from parliament to ensure the Great Council is independent of party politics.

Biographer Stan Ritova says Mr. Rabuka will be looking to the next election in five years.

"It gives him good standing actually, after being defeated in the general elections. I think it's worked right into his hands actually."

" I think he'll make a comeback quite honestly, he's doing this for the long term, and I'm sure he'll come back very, very strongly in the next election in five years," said Ritova.
