HONIARA, Solomon Islands (June 8, 1999 - PACNEWS)---A new style of government is taking hold in the Solomons' capital city of Honiara.

The new style is a city council, which is still to be elected, and will operate under Melanesia style leadership---meaning decision making will be based on consensus.

Home Affairs Minister Rev. Leslie Boseto said voting might have to be carried out only on controversial resolutions.

He said to foster Melanesian leadership style, there would be no Government or opposition side.

Rev. Boseto said the recently approved Honiara city bill bars voting because there has been a history of political in-fighting’s in recently elected councils.
