TONGA’S FOREIGN MINISTER ON OFFICIAL VISIT TO AUSTRALIA

NUKU‘ALOFA, Tonga (June 22, 1999 - PACNEWS/Radio Tonga)---Tonga’s Foreign Affairs and Defense Minister, Prince Lavaka Ata Ulukalala, has begun a state visit to Australia.

The Minister was hosted at an official dinner in Canberra on Monday (June 21) by Australian Foreign Minister Alexander Downer.

The Prince is scheduled to meet with Australia’s Defense Minister, John Moore, later today (June 22) and meet senior officials for a round-table discussion of foreign affairs and defense matters.

The Prince travels to Sydney on Wednesday (June 23) to hold discussions with the University of New England on possible training opportunities for Tongan officers.

In Sydney he also will meet with Major General John Hartley, the Commander of the Australian Land Forces Headquarters.

The Minister is being accompanied to Australia by Foreign Secretary Tu‘a Taumoepeau Tupou and Colonel Tau‘aika Uta‘atu of the Tongan Defense Force.
