RAROTONGA, Cook Islands (July 15, 199 – PACNEWS)---Former Deputy Prime Minister Inatio Akaruru is back in Parliament, the result of a High Court ruling in his favor.

Lawyers successfully ruled that opposition candidate Tiaki Wuatai, who won the vote, was still a public servant at the time of his nomination and therefore his candidacy was invalid.

Akaruru’s election means the Cook Islands Party and New Alliance Coalition now have 16 seats in Parliament. The Democratic Alliance has nine seats.
