MAJURO, Marshall Islands (July 20, 1999 – PACNEWS/RNZI)---Australia has been criticized for its lack of action in reducing greenhouse emissions and refusal to support emission targets.

An international climate change meeting hosted by the Association of Small Island States (AOSIS) in the Marshall Islands last week heard Nauru bluntly attack Australia for not backing greenhouse gas emission targets, which AOSIS has unanimously endorsed.

Other small-island officials said efforts by Australia and New Zealand to have forestry and land use issues included in their clean environment development programs were made just to offload all their greenhouse reduction requirements onto planting trees, instead of having to reduce industrial pollution.
