PAPE‘ETE, French Polynesia (July 19, 1999 - PACNEWS)---A delegation made up of French Polynesia’s opposition parties has returned from autonomy discussions in France.

Opposition leaders, including Oscar Temaru from the pro-independence Tavini Hui-Raatira Party, met with French politicians to discuss the draft bill on greater autonomy for French Polynesia promoted by the Territorial Government leader, President Gaston Flosse.

Nelson Ortas, a spokesperson for the Tavini Hui-Raatira Party, said opposition parties expressed concern about the lack of consultation in the autonomy process and called for greater democracy.

He said the message had been heard and a bridge established with the French Government.
