KIRIBATI PARLIAMENT APPROVES SUPPLEMENTARY APPROPRIATION BILL

TARAWA, Kiribati (July 29, 1999 – PACNEWS/Radio Kiribati)---President Teburoro Tito of Kiribati has signed a Supplementary Appropriation Act authorizing $AUS 942,500 (US$ 612,342) from the country’s Consolidation Fund to be added to national operating expenditures for fiscal year 1999.

As a result, the Kiribati Government’s recurrent expenditure authorization for 1999 has increased from $AUS 63,613,348 (US$ 41,329,592) to $AUS 64,555,848 (US$ 41,941,934).

The Kiribati Parliament passed the Supplementary Appropriation Bill while in session last month.

The additional funds are needed to cover what the Government described as "unforeseen" expenses in the judiciary, the police and prisons department, and the environment and health ministries.

Kiribati’s Consolidated Fund is comprised of government revenue collected from a variety of sources.
