MAJURO, Marshall Islands (August 18, 1999 – Radio Australia)---A 140-member delegation from Taiwan, headed by Vice Foreign Affairs Minister David Lee, is making an official visit to the Marshall Islands.

Plans call for Lee to formally open a new Taiwan-aid farming project during the group’s four-day stay.

Lee is accompanied by members of Taiwan's Agricultural Technology Mission, the first of its kind ever to be stationed in the Marshall Islands.

Taiwan formally established diplomatic relations with the Marshall Islands last November, at which time diplomatic ties with the Peoples Republic of China were severed.

Among other activities the Taiwan delegation will meet with top Marshallese political and business leaders to assess the potential of the islands for developing Taiwan-supported fishing ventures and tourism activities.
