SUVA, Fiji Islands (August 20, 1999 – Radio Australia)---Fiji's Transport Control Board is currently looking at measures that will help prevent any future bus strikes.

Board Chairman Robert Dodds said the issue was discussed at length in a meeting following the 24-hour strike by Fiji bus operators last Monday, to protest government's move towards legalizing minibus operations.

Mr. Dodds said they are treating the matter very seriously, as the strike affected thousands of workers and school children.

The possibility of de-registering bus companies is being considered, he said.
