PRESS RELEASE November 10, 1999

SOUTH PACIFIC TOURISM ORGANIZATION AT THE WORLD TRAVEL MARKET 1999 – LONDON

As part of our work program activities under the European Union (EU) funded Pacific Regional Tourism Development Program Phase III, the South Pacific Tourism Organization (SPTO) coordinates the participation of member countries at international trade fairs.

One of these shows is the World Travel Market (WTM), which will be held in London from the 15th to the 18th of November 1999.

This is the biggest tourism show in the United Kingdom and seven of the South Pacific Tourism Organization’s member countries will be participating.

At the WTM this year, the following countries will be participating: the Cook Islands, Fiji, Papua New Guinea, French Polynesia, Tonga, Samoa and Vanuatu.  Our member countries will be trading under the brand name – “South Pacific Islands Discover Paradise!”

This joint participation is made possible through membership in the SPTO, which strives to collectively promote the region.  For members, this proves to be more cost effective than their participating individually.

From the region there are a total of 76 registered participants.  These include representatives from the national tourism offices, from the airlines that service the region and from the private sector (hotel and resort representatives and tour operators).
