SUVA, Fiji Islands (November 9, 1999 – Radio Australia)---Fiji and Australia have liberalized air services between the two countries.

The new agreement means Air Pacific will be able to add an extra 1,100 seats a week to its Australia service -- lifting the total to 6,000 seats a week.

Qantas and Ansett will operate an extra 1,800 seats a week – increasing their weekly capacity to Fiji to 5,000 seats.

Australia's Transport Minister, John Anderson, said dedicated freight capacity from Australia to Fiji also will expand, from a maximum of 100 tons to 140 tons a week.

Mr. Anderson said the agreement really means that Qantas, Ansett and Air Pacific now have no limits on their right to fly passengers from Australian regional centers to Fiji.
