SOLOMONS HIGH COURT TO HEAR CHARGES AGAINST PUBLIC SERVANTS

HONIARA, Solomon Islands (November 16, 1999 – Radio Australia)---The Solomon Islands High Court is to hear allegations that four former senior public servants stole millions of dollars from the government.

The Central Magistrates Court in Honiara carried out an inquiry into the allegations and sent the four to the High Court.

The Magistrates Court found the men had cost the government millions of dollars under false pretences in 1995.

The accused include the Ministry of Finance's former Director of Budget, his deputy and two former chief administrative officers responsible for approving government orders for furniture and canoes.

No date has yet been set for the hearing.
