FIJI HOTELIERS CALL FOR LIFTING OF FIREWORKS BAN

SUVA, Fiji Islands (December 6, 1999 – Fiji Village News)---The Fiji Hotel Association (FHA) hopes the Ministry of Commerce will lift its temporary ban on fireworks.

This is because fireworks are a major part of planned millennium activities.

The association says millennium celebration plans are well under way at resorts and hotels throughout the country and, in addition to New Year’s Eve bashes, extravagant dinner parties, tropical cruises and more, major fireworks displays are on the agenda.

Fireworks now are temporarily banned, following a death, injuries and damages caused by the use of fireworks during last month’s Hindu Diwali Festival of Lights.

The FHA says good hotel occupancies are forecast for Fiji during the millennium period.
