PAGO PAGO, American Samoa (December 23, 1999 – Samoa News)---American Samoa’s third radio station, KNWJ at 93.9 FM, is now on the air.

The new radio station offers non-commercial Christian programming, according to Pastor Gary Sword.

It is owned and operated by the Shower of Blessing, a non-profit ministry owned by Rev. Sword and other local pastors. The station is funded by local Christian churches of every denomination, as well as by listeners, he said.

Sword said KNWJ is the first all-Christian radio station in the two Samoas.

"The focus will be our young people, providing them with a positive message and the good news about Jesus. The format includes Christian music and programs," he said.

A technician arrived on island last week to help install the 24-hour radio station's antenna, located on Aoloau. The station's office is located in Tafuna.

The station did a test broadcast on December 18 with Christian and Christmas music. It’s not expected to be fully operational until early next year when more equipment arrives.

Sword hopes that by the end of 2000, the station will be broadcasting a signal that people in Manu'a can pick up.
