Regarding The Cook Islands Development Investment Board

December 20, 1999

Dear Sir / Madam,

My office received a copy of a story titled "Bean Sprouts R Us" from the Cook Islands Star in Auckland, and downloaded the same story from your bulletin board out of Hawaii.

I am in the process of drafting a letter to Mr. Charles Carlson - Publisher of Cook Islands Star - outlining my disappointment with the false statements presented. I will advise Mr. Carlson that the Development Investment Board has not registered a foreign enterprise specializing in the production of bean sprouts. Importantly, the Development Investment Board's hard work to reposition the image and branding of the Cook Islands business and investment climate has not only been tarnished in New Zealand - but also extends throughout a wider region - as a result of syndication of false news and announcements.

I respectfully seek your cooperation to give my office the opportunity to comment on stories that could damage the good image of the Cook Islands. This will give us the opportunity to provide a balanced report.
