PORT MORESBY, Papua New Guinea (December 28, 1999 – The National)---Residents in the nation's capital will be entertained by sky shows and a musical extravaganza at the Ela Beach Sea Park on December 31 to commemorate the beginning of the new millennium.

The celebrations, called the 'Millennium Concert,' will feature a Maori (New Zealand) entertainment group based on the Gold Coast in Queensland and two Australian bands from Sydney and Melbourne. The groups will play a variety of music ranging from reggae, rhythm and blues, and dance music, which are non-confrontational and non-discriminatory.

Organizers of the free concert include the Shooters Salon Bar, Sirocco bar and restaurant, Benson and Hedges, and Flashes Light and Sound.

National Capital District Police Commander Raphael Huafolo said police will be out in full force to assist security personnel. Public transportation will be provided for city residents.

Huafolo said police and security personnel will ensure that the family event is alcohol-free. He said police personnel will be deployed throughout Ela Beach.
