SUVA, Fiji Islands (December 31, 1999 – Fiji’s Daily Post)---Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister, Dr. Tupeni Baba has a new vision for Fiji.

He says Fiji must become a people of one nation and a nation of one people.

Dr. Baba made the statement as part of his New Year’s message.

He said the vision represents the future of Fiji and that while the people of Fiji needed to bear in mind the twin challenges of keeping pace with the world's greatest technological developments and sustaining our own local environment, they must not forget the most important factor in any development -- the people themselves.

"It is a vision of living in freedom and harmony, of sharing in our diversity, and continuing tolerance and goodwill," he said.

"It is also this vision that must fuel our motivation to participate in activities that will improve the social and economic well being of our nation and an improved quality of life for our people."
