WELLINGTON, New Zealand (January 18, 2000 – Radio Australia)---Niue's Premier Sani Lakatani has arrived in the New Zealand capital of Wellington for official talks on the Government's aid package for the island.

A number of senior Niue Government officials accompanied Mr. Lakatani to Wellington, where he is expected to meet New Zealand's new Prime Minister Helen Clark this week.

He'll present the Niue Government's position on a special report prepared by the New Zealand Government, recommending a reduction in its aid package for Niue.

A consultant review of New Zealand's financial assistance recommended the gradual reduction of the $5.4 million annual package over a three-year period.
