ALOFI, Niue (February 16, 2000 - Radio Australia's Pacific Beat)---The Broadcasting Corporation of Niue (BCN) has appointed former Director of Cook Islands Television Shona Pitt as its new general manager.

Pitt replaces Hima Douglas, who is now a Member of Parliament.

Pitt said BCN holds a lot of potential for the broadcast industry.

"The station is well equipped, but unfortunately for the past year they have been floundering around without a general manager and doing the best that they can," she said.

Pitt said at this point she's not sure if the BCN is in a position to add more local content for television production.

"At the moment there is a lack of staff," she said. "We are operating under very stressful conditions. My first priority is to build up the confidence in the staff."

Pitt praised the BCN staff, saying they are highly skilled. She said with a little guidance and encouragement the team should make some advancement within the next six months.
