1999 RECORD YEAR FOR FIJI TOURISM

SUVA, Fiji Islands (February 25, 2000 – Radio Australia)---A record 410,000 tourists visited Fiji in 1999, 10.4 percent more than the previous year.

Australians and New Zealanders made up the vast majority of the visitors. The number of Australians grew 17.4 percent to 118,000 while New Zealand visitors rose two percent to 72,000.

The number of U.S. tourists was up 28 percent to 62,000.

Tourism is Fiji's main foreign exchange earner.

Revenue for 1999 is not immediately available.
