SUVA, Fiji Islands (February 26, 2000 – Fiji’s Daily Post)---A high concentration of chemicals, fats and grease in Walu Bay, Suva, is blamed for a major recent fish kill.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forests made the announcement after receiving the analysis of water samples sent to the National Water Quality Laboratory in Kinoya.

The analysis did not reveal exactly which chemicals are present in the water. This will require further analysis.

Meanwhile, the Agriculture Ministry is working very closely with other government departments, non-government organizations and factories near Walu Bay to control the pollution.
