BANK OF HAWAII OFFICE

PAGO PAGO, American Samoa (February 29, 2000 – Associated Press)---The Bank of Hawaii is asking for federal approval for a third office in this U.S. territory.

The proposed collection office, already approved by the American Samoa government, would be located in the government-owned Tafuna Industrial Park about a mile from Pago Pago International Airport.

Bank of Hawaii already has two branches on the main island, Tutuila, where the new office would be located.  Bank officials say a third branch would serve the territory’s growing population.

Bank of Hawaii is the largest independent financial institution in the territory, about 2,300 miles south of Hawaii.

A timetable for construction and opening will not be known until the office gets approval from Washington, said Bank of Hawaii local manager Brent Swenke.
