Pacific Islanders in Communications (PIC) announces its Media Fund 2000 for the creation of public television programs that illuminate the indigenous Pacific Islander experience. PIC is particularly interested in innovative projects that bring untold stories to a broad American audience. Programs should deepen perspectives on the issues contemporary Pacific Islanders face and underscore their resonance within an increasingly diverse, global society.

Programs may be of any genre, but must be intended for broadcast on national public television.

Previous programs PIC has funded for national broadcast include: Then There Were None, Storytellers of the Pacific (international co-production) and Wayfinders: A Pacific Odyssey.

Funding Levels

Research and development: up to $15,000.

Production and completion: up to $50,000.

Application Deadline: May 31, 2000, 5:30 p.m. Hawai‘i Standard Time

Applicant Eligibility and Guidelines Applicants must be at years of age and citizens or legal residents of the United States or its territories. Applicants should have previous film/television experience, as demonstrated in the sample tape. All applicants must have primary artistic and editorial control, demonstrate sound fiscal management and retain the copyright. All projects must meet accepted technical, ethical and journalistic standards for national public television broadcast.

PROGRAM LENGTHS Final programs must be delivered in standard public television lengths (i.e., 56:40, 86:40). We will not consider projects less than one hour in length unless the proposal is for a series.

NOT ELIGIBLE Industrial films and videos Instructional or promotional films and videos Student productions Projects for which the exclusive domestic television or radio broadcast rights are not available.
