NAURU TO ELECT NEW PRESIDENT

YAREN, Nauru (April 10, 2000 – Radio Australia)---Members of Parliament, chosen by the electorate during Saturday’s national polling, will meet Tuesday to elect a new president.

Two former presidents, Kennan Adeang and Rueben Kun, were defeated in the weekend balloting, as was Speaker of Parliament Dr. Ludwig Keke.

In Saturday’s balloting, some 4,000 Nauruans aged 21 years and over went to the polls to elect 18 parliamentarians.
