NEW COOK ISLANDS HIGH COMMISSIONER TO NEW ZEALAND

AVARUA, Cook Islands (April 19, 2000 – Cook Islands News)---Former Cabinet Secretary and Prime Minister's Office media spokesman, Wilkie Rasmussen, has been named as Cabinet's choice for the Cook Islands High Commission post in Wellington, New Zealand.

And Iaveta Arthur, an unsuccessful Democratic Alliance Party candidate for the Overseas seat in the last general election, has been chosen as the Consul General for the Cook Islands office in Auckland.

Arthur has worked at the office in the past and is also a former MP.

Prime Minister Dr. Terepai Maoate announced the cabinet decisions at the National Auditorium during the swearing ceremony of undersecretaries.

However he stressed that confirmation of the two appointments is subject to finalization by the New Zealand government.

Dr. Maoate described Rasmussen as the best man for the post, a very capable person with a lot of experience and background in legal matters.
