NOUMEA, New Caledonia (April 25, 2000 – Oceania Flash/SPC)---France's Overseas Network (RFO), which runs some 10 radio and television stations globally, has entered into an association with a world-wide channel, TV5, to widen its broadcasting base, Les Nouvelles Calédoniennes reports.

The first global broadcast took place last weekend and reached an estimated 120 million viewers, as opposed to less than 200,000 in the French territory of New Caledonia.

TV5 is a Channel specializing in global broadcast of French-speaking programs. Ranked third in world channels behind MTV and CNN, it currently reaches an estimated 600 million viewers globally.

Under an agreement signed between RFO, TV5 and CanalSat (the satellite owner and operator of the global network), RFO joins TV5's pool of five French-speaking channels taking part in the current network.
