SUVA, Fiji Islands (April 26, 2000 - Radio Australia)---Former Fiji Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has been re-elected unopposed as chairman of the Great Council of Chiefs.

The appointment was the first item on the agenda as the chiefs began a two-day meeting in Suva.

The closed meeting is also expected to discuss a number of controversial issues, which have been causing divisions within the council.

Rabuka has confirmed that the meeting will discuss a government proposal to establish a land use commission.

It will also discuss the government's decision to deal with a British finance company, Commonwealth Development Corporation, which plans to harvest and sell logs from Fiji's mahogany plantations.
