SUVA, Fiji Islands (May 16, 2000 – Radio Australia)---Fiji's Taukei Movement is planning to hold protest marches and a rally during the African Caribbean Pacific-European Union meetings in Nadi and Suva next month.

Taukei Movement secretary Apisai Tora said they are in the process of writing to ACP countries to boycott the Fiji meeting.

Mr. Tora said they are asking ACP countries not to attend because of what he claims is the insensitivity of the Fijian government to matters affecting the indigenous people of the country:

"We want to demonstrate to them our concern . . . that our rights and our culture and our institutions are not being treated with the attention and sensitivity that they deserve by the Mahendra Chaudhry government," Tora said.
