KOROR, Palau (May 23, 2000 – Radio Australia)---The Olympic torch is continuing its journey across the Pacific today with a 24-hour stopover in Palau.

Palau is the second of 13 Pacific stops for the torch, before it arrives in Australia on June 8.

On Wednesday, the torch will arrive in the Federated States of Micronesia where Jim Tobin, Secretary General of the FSM Olympic Committee, said the emphasis will be on youth:

"Most of our torch bearers, around 90 of them, are under 21 and they are athletes.

"We decided since we were one of the newest countries in the Olympic federation we'd let our future elite athletes (carry) the torch," Tobin said.
